Birth control?

I'm considering taking it because I have acne that won't go away! It fluctuates on amount but it's always there and topical treatments are sucky! (I've used virtually every acne product like clean and clear for example and even tried expensive organic vitamin C stuff. I've been using Tazorac, the high dosage, for about a year and a half and isn't exactly giving me good results at all)

But my question is that I think in the long run it might mess up my body because I had a friend who took it and now she has freckles from it. But also I don't want it to mess up my "Womanly functions" if that makes sense. I know periods will be all wierd but I don't want my hormones getting all out of whack and being more trouble than its worth.

What do you think? Your expertise? experience?

(I'll be picking a best answer)

I've been on Birth control for 4 years. It has helped my skin problems outrageously. I have not noticed any freckles appearing that haven't already been there. I would talk to a doctor about choices in BC, because there are a wide variety out there for you. Your periods will not be that weird because BC is suppose to help with hormones, hence why women that skip periods take BC to help them menstruate regularly.

go for it.

consult a doctor before starting such medicines…

i've been taking b.c. since i was 15 i am now 22 i used to break out all the time and havent gotten but one or two zits a year now i take yasmin its a low hormone b.c. i never gained weight, i just stopped breaking out, could plan out when i wanted to have my periods, and dont havta worry about being prego. i was kinda upset though about the weight thing i wanted my boobs to grow… but oh well, anyways i strongly advise you to get on birth control anyways no matter what its for……(as soon as you get off you will be able to get pregnant very easily-as proven by my many recent baby shower attendings) if thats what you are worried about,

I have the exact problem. I take the pill to help partially with my acne. It honestly really worked..my skin is massively cleared. However, i decided to come off it for a while…and now my face is breaking out! I actually saw my doctor and he recommends that i go back on it. Before going on the pill i saw lots of specialists and used alot of skin treatments but none really helped. But for me the pill worked. I did noticed like a few freckles after i started to take it [and I'm chocolate brown]…but its no biggie! The positives outweighs the negatives! [for me that is]

Have you tried other stuff for your acne that's not topical? You say it fluctuates in which case it could be to do with your cycle and birth control will help, but as well as the over the counter stuff you've tried the doctor can prescribe antibiotics which can also treat the acne.

Birth control does clear most women's acne though and it doesn't make your hormones out of whack – it settles them. Nowadays it is very low dose and most people don't notice side effects (never heard of the freckle stuff before, if it happens I think it's uncommon). Periods become regular…it doesn't mess up your body, otherwise it wouldn't be so popular.

The only way to know is to try it though, and I think at this stage you should go for it. I know people for whom it has been effective.
