Serious Question: Getting Rid of MRSA, Staph aureus…?
Is there any hope of winning a personal war against MRSA on my face? (sorry for this long query…)
History: I was diagnosed with MRSA in July, 2007 after having a facial. Long story short: after initially taking some powerful antibiotics and topical medications –which didn't get rid of it– I went for another dermatologist's appointment and was told is: There are no inexpensive medications to treat MRSA. (I don't have insurance and am self employed.) So the best thing to do is keep your face (and incubation sites: armpits & nose) very clean and use soap with salicylic acid.
I did buy a couple of tubes of ointment, Altabax (retapamulin ointment, 1%) but I can't use it on my face as it is petroleum-based, very greasy, and breaks me out in acne wherever it touches my face. I wish this medicine came in a non-greasy base.
Currently I use nothing but the salicylic acid soap and a acid based face cream (Intaglio brand).
I still have breakouts but they are becoming fewer and further between. Is there anything else I can try?
I read the CDC's info on MRSA and the upshot is: if you don't get rid of the infection after the first twelve months, it gets into the bloodstream and over time attacks the heart valve — which over time kills you. I have had it for two years and three months. I am afraid I will never be rid of this plague. Can you offer me any ideas for self-treatment? –Even home remedies, specific herbs, vitamins, etc. might help. I take Nature's Choice Ultra Vitamins. –Can you tell I'm desperate?
Please don't say, "See your doctor." because I can't afford the ongoing visits, much less the medicines. It is horrible to be in this position.
Free clinics are not an option for reason's I can't disclose at this time. I am not making excuses, believe me, I would go if I could.
Thanks in advance for helping me. I feel hopeless.
Thanks for taking the time to answer. It means a lot to me. The doc never said anything about IV treatment but I know that is the usual course. I guess I'll just have to face it. I've been hoping it would just go dormant.

Honey I know you don't want to hear it but you have no choice, you have to get medical attention. MRSA will never go away you will have it till the day you die. There is a bright side to this after you have gotten the proper treatment of IV antibiotics it can become dormant (inactive). I have worked in every unit in a hospital and I assure you, you need IV antibiotics. I wish I had better news for you.
